Carrie Giver
by Jonas Diego
This is a character design project I made for the Women’s Division of the US Department of Labor some years ago.
It’s significant to me because this is one of the first times that the animated style that I’ve developed (most apparent in my GRAPHIC DETAIL comic strips) has been used.
Anyway, Carrie Giver was created to be the superhero for Care Givers (Carrie Giver…Care Giver…get it?).
This illustration was originally drawn on A4 paper using graphite pencil and various UNIpin Technical Pens of varying points. The colors and texts was added later in Adobe Photoshop.

“The US Department of Labor (DOL) fosters and promotes the welfare of the job seekers, wage earners, and retirees of the United States by improving their working conditions, advancing their opportunities for profitable employment, protecting their retirement and health care benefits, helping employers find workers, strengthening free collective bargaining, and tracking changes in employment, prices, and other national economic measurements.
In carrying out this mission, the Department administers a variety of Federal labor laws including those that guarantee workers’ rights to safe and healthful working conditions; a minimum hourly wage and overtime pay; freedom from employment discrimination; unemployment insurance; and other income support.”
